John Mayer’s maturity level seems to be growing, saying that he acted like "a jerk" in past relationships just as his live music is getting back on track. Mayer had been battling a throat granuloma, a serious inflammation, which required multiple surgeries and had prevented him from performing live for the last two years. A recent checkup, however, revealed that the granuloma is gone, and Mayer was back on stage to share the good news. He also appears to have gained a new perspective on the world.

"It’s very liberating when you finally realize it's impossible to make everyone like you," Mayer told Anthony Mason in an interview for CBS 'Sunday Morning' that will air this weekend. “I wanted everybody to like me. I thought I was one shuck and jive away in every direction.”

Mayer had gained a reputation as somewhat of a playboy, having dated Taylor Swift, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jessica Simpson. Mayer is now dating Katy Perry, and while things seem to be going well, the pop superstar will not be taking Mayer as her date to Sunday's Grammy's. Instead, Perry plans to take HBO's Girls star Allison Williams, according to TODAY.

Mayer is currently promoting his new album, Born and Raised. Check out this preview video of Mayer singing “Speak for Me” from his new album at a benefit concert in Bozeman, Mont. His CBS “Sunday Morning” interview will air Sunday, Feb. 10 at 9 a.m. EST.
