Some Good News, the digital series originally created and hosted by The Office and Jack Ryan star John Krasinski on YouTube, has been acquired by ViacomCBS. Future episodes of the show will feature a new host who is yet to be announced, and premiere on CBS All Access. It will also air on the company’s other channels like Comedy Central, which is producing the show. Krasinski will be the executive producer and will appear on the show in some form.
“Could not be more excited and proud to be partnering with CBS/Viacom to be able to bring ‘Some Good News’ to so many more people,” Krasinski said in a statement Thursday. “From the first episode, our goal was to create a news show dedicated entirely to good news. Never did I expect to be joining the ranks of such a historic news organization as CBS.”
The news follows the show’s Sunday finale. Krasinski had originally started the show in response to people adjusting to life under the pandemic. For eight weeks, the series honored doctors, essential workers, and teachers. It also featured celebrity cameos, a virtual wedding at which the cast of The Office reunited, a reunion for the Broadway show Hamilton, a virtual prom with Krasinski as DJ, and even a virtual graduation with Oprah Winfrey, Malala Yousafzai, Steven Spielberg and Jon Stewart. Each episode has millions of views and comments from people who love Krasinski’s idea of spreading good news and positive energy.
