Big Bang Theory star John Galecki‘s home was destroyed in a California wildfire earlier this week.
The so-called Hill Fire began Monday afternoon around 3:30 p.m., and took over a 2.5-square mile radius. It was 60% contained by Tuesday night, after having burned nearly 1,600 acres of land. Only one building was confirmed destroyed by the fire, but more statements will be made once the fire is under control. Nicole Perna, the spokeswoman for Galecki, says his home in the San Luis Obispo area was gone.
About 250 residents were affected and told to leave their homes on Monday. They were allowed to return on Tuesday night. The actor was not home at the time of the fire, and has not returned to see the damage either, but he did make a statement to CNN.
“My heart goes out to all in the area who are also experiencing loss from this vicious fire. The threat of which we live with constantly, which may seem crazy to some but we do so because living in our beautiful, rural area makes it worthwhile,” Galecki, 42, said. “It’s never the structures that create a community — it’s the people. And if the people of Santa Margarita have taught me anything it’s that, once the smoke has cleared, literally and figuratively, it’s a time to reach out and rebuild. We’ve done it before and we’ll need to do it together again. And it will make our community even closer and stronger. Endless thanks to CalFire and the Sheriff’s office. I know you guys are fighting the good fight to keep us safe. So very relieved no one has been hurt.”
Galecki plays Dr. Leonard Hofstadter on Big Bang Theory alongside Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper.
