JOHN CARROLL LYNCH BIOGRAPHY: EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW ON ‘LUCKY’
Lucky follows a 90-year-old man nicknamed Lucky who, after an accidental fall, realizes his mortality. Lucky marked lead actor Harry Dean Stanton’s last film role before his death in September 2017.
In an exclusive talk with uInterview, Lynch revealed that the creators of the film had Stanton in mind from the very beginning. “The entire movie was conceived with Harry Dean in mind. There was no moment in the creation of the movie that we would ever would have imagined making it with anybody else,” Lynch said. Lynch told uInterview that Stanton was the one to suggest David Lynch for the role of Howard, a quirky regular at the diner that Lucky frequents.
“The screenplay was so strongly rooted in the conversations that Logan [screenwriter Logan Sparks] and Harry [Stanton] had had about the void, about a kind of a worldview. The thing that I love about the movie is that it’s about living and joy, and living in joy and not shying away from my mortality, no matter how close or how far away it is,” Lynch told uInterview of the message of the movie.
