Johanna Colon, 6, from Raleigh, N.C., stole the spotlight at her recital with a sassy tap routine to Aretha Franklin’s 1967 hit-song “Respect.”
JOHANNA THE DANCING DIVA
The hilarious viral video that was uploaded on Monday by Johanna’s mother Elissa, now has over 37 million views on YouTube and Facebook, and it features her daughter and two other little girls in fluffy pink tutu’s dancing to “Respect.”
Colon told ABC that her daughter’s dance instructor Heather Fitts, chose “Respect” because she just knew that Johanna would make it her own. The audience must have agreed that the dancing diva deserved R-E-S-P-E-C-T because it was the only routine that got a standing ovation during the recital.
In addition to tap dancing, Johanna, who has been taking dance classes in Heather’s Dance Inc since she was two, also takes jazz, ballet and tumbling.
Johanna practiced her dance routine for weeks. “She would make me play it on Pandora constantly. All eyes were on her from the beginning. As soon as she walked out, everybody was just floored,” Colon told TODAY.com.
Johanna and her mother will be on Good Morning America this Thursday.
