Jofi Joseph, National Security Council Staffer, Fired After Being Exposed As Anonymous Tweeter

Jofi Joseph worked at the White House as a member of the team that negotiated Iran’s nuclear weapons program while using an anonymous Twitter account to slam the administration and specific politicians.

Joseph, 40, was fired last week following a months-long probe that discovered that he was behind the @natsecwonk Twitter handle. Among the many targets of his tweets were former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, speechwriter Ben Rhodes, Chuck Hagel, Anthony Weiner and the entire staff that Obama has surrounding him. After @natsecwonk became increasingly critical about the administration’s version of events during the Sept. 11, 2012 Benghazi attack, White House and State Department officials decided it was prudent to sniff out who was behind the psydonymn.

Since being fired from his government position, Joseph has expressed remorse for his behavior on the social media site. “It has been a privilege to serve in this Administration and I deeply regret violating the trust and confidence placed in me,” Joseph told Politico.

“What started out as an intended parody account of D.C. culture developed over time into a series of inappropriate and mean-spirited comments,” he added. “I bear complete responsibility for this affair and I sincerely apologize to everyone I insulted.”

Joseph could ostensibly have been the typist behind another controversial Twitter account – @dchobbyist. The second anonymous handle apparently focused on racy allegations concerning the men and women of Washington and prostitution. It also apparently shared information regarding the State Department.

Prior to getting busted for his Twitter accounts, Joseph was on his way to assuming a leading Pentagon position, according to ForeignPolicy.com. He’s married to Senate Foreign Relations Committee staffer Carolyn Leddy.
