Joey Boots, a radio personality best known as one of the “Wack Packers” on Howard Stern‘s radio show, died on Friday.
TMZ reported that Boots died from an unknown cause in his apartment in Bronx. He was 49.
A representative for the NYPD said the police responded to a call at 9:45 PM for a male in need of medical attention. Boots was pronounced dead on arrival.
Colleagues became worried after Boots didn’t show for his regular gig on the show.
Joey Boots was a fan favorite on the Howard Stern show. He was best known for screaming “Baba Booey” during news broadcasts. He even successfully defended his right to yell the catch phrase in a landmark court case.
On Saturday, Howard Stern took to Twitter to post a tribute to the Boots.
A staffer from the radio show, Memet Walker, also shared a photo of him and Boots.
“Joey Boots wasn’t a Wack Packer to me… he was a genuine friend,” Walker captioned a photo with Boots. “I’m gonna miss you like hell, buddy.”
