Joe Alaskey, Voice Of Bugs Bunny And Donald Duck, Dies At 63

Voice actor Joe Alaskey, the voice of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Sylvester the Cat, Tweety Bird and others, has died after a battle with cancer.

Alaskey had taken over these roles after Mel Blanc’s death in 1989, winning himself an Emmy award in 2004 for his work as Daffy Duck in Duck Dodgers.

Other notable roles of Alaskey include President Nixon in Forrest Gump as well as Grandpa Pickles in Rugrats and Mermaid Man on Spongebob Squarepants. He also often re-dubbed dialogue for the famous comedian, Jackie Gleason.

Alaskey was completely self-taught, beginning his impressions at the age of 5. Alaskey worked his way up from the radio to Hollywood.

Television writer and friend of Alaskey, Mark Evanier, wrote a tribute on his blog ending it: “The [voice] I liked the best was when he sounded like Joe Alaskey. He had a long, long list of voices but that’s the one I will miss the most.”
