Jodie Foster Thanks ‘Love Of My Life,’ Wife Alexandra Hedison, & Son Kit Bernard In Globes Speech  – As Sofia Vergara Protests Loss

At the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, a playful moment stole the spotlight when Sofía Vergara jokingly protested her loss to Jodie Foster. Vergara, who was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series for her role in Griselda, stood up from her seat and mouthed, “No, no!” when Foster’s name was announced.

Foster, who was recognized for her performance as Detective Liz Danvers in True Detective: Night Country, responded with a knowing smile from the stage, saying, “I know, I know.” Vergara continued, joking, “Give me one!” as the audience erupted in laughter.

Foster, gracious as ever, didn’t miss a beat, acknowledging the lighthearted moment. “The greatest thing about being this age and being in this time is having a community of all these people, especially you, Sofía,” she said during her acceptance speech. The two actresses, who were also up against Cate Blanchett, Cristin Milioti, Naomi Watts and Kate Winslet in the category, shared a warm moment of camaraderie amidst the competition.

In her speech, she proceeded to thank True Detective’s showrunner, Issa López, as well as costar Kali Reis, and paid tribute to the Indigenous people whose stories inspired the show, saying, “They changed my life and hopefully they’ll change yours.”

Foster also gave a heartfelt shoutout to her family. “Kit [Bernard], my scientist son and Charlie, my actor son who’s starting his career. Hopefully, you understand the joy, such joy that comes from doing really hard, meaningful, good work. My boys, I love you, and this, of course, is for you. And the love of my life, Alex [Hedison]. Thank you, forever,” she shared. 

Out of ten total nominations in her career, this Golden Globe marked Foster’s fifth win, following her previous accolades for The Accused (1989), The Silence of the Lambs (1992), The Mauritanian (2021) and the Cecil B. DeMille Award in 2013. Foster famously came out publically during her DeMille Award speech.
