Actress Jodie Foster will receive the 2016 Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film on Oct. 28.

JODIE FOSTER TO RECEIVE STANLEY KUBRICK BRITANNIA AWARD

BAFTA Los Angeles presents the Britannia Awards every year for various factors in the filmmaking process. This year, Foster is the Excellence in Film recipient. “It seems fitting that in this 40th Anniversary year of both ‘Taxi Driver’ and ‘Bugsy Malone,’ we are honoring Jodie’s remarkable trail-blazing career at the Britannia Awards,” said BAFTA Los Angeles chairman Kieran Breen. “It takes a rare and special talent to launch an international career with two amazingly different performances, and Jodie’s choices as an actor and director have continued to earn a deserved reputation as one of the most versatile professionals of our time.”

Though her first was as a three year old in a Coppertone commercial, Foster gained international fame from her role as the young prostitute Iris “Easy” Steensma in Taxi Driver. Foster, whose film career spans 50 years, has been nominated for four Academy Awards, and won twice for Best Actress in a Leading Role for 1988’s The Accused and 1991’s Silence of the Lambs. Her more recent roles include narrating for 2014’s Makers: Women Who Make America, and performing role in 2013’s Elysium and 2011’s Carnage. Foster has also directed multiple episodes of Orange is the New Black, one of House of Cards, and 2016’s George ClooneyJulia Roberts movie Money Monster.

Foster joins other past recipients of the award, including Meryl StreepSteven Spielberg and Denzel Washington.

Other 2016 Britannia Award recipients are Ricky Gervais with the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy, Ang Lee with the John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Excellence in Directing, Samuel L. Jackson with the Albert R. Broccoli Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Entertainment, Felicity Jones with the Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year, and Ewan McGregor with the Britannia Humanitarian Award.
