Jimmy Snuka hopes to clear his name
Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka has been deemed unfit to stand trial in the 1983 death of his then-girlfriend Nancy Argentino.
Lehigh County Judge Kelly Banach ruled Wednesday in Pennsylvania that Snuka seems incompetent to stand trial, reported the New York Post. Over the corse of four days, a hearing took place to determine whether of not Snuka could face trial on murder and manslaughter charges in connection to Argentino’s death. Banach witnessed Snuka appearing confused during her questioning, and is unconvinced that Snuka would be able to fake symptoms of dementia.
Snuka, 73, will be reevaluated for competency in six months.
Snucka had appeared at Lehigh County Court in Allentown, Pa., back in November to enter his not-guilty plea for Argentino’s May 10, 1983 murder.
Snuka was charged with third-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter in the death of Argentino, 23, in September of last year – thirty-two years after her death. Evidence had led Lehigh County authorities to believe that they had a case against the WWE legend, reported The Morning Call.
Part of the reason investigators sought to reopen the case was Snuka’s account of Argentino’s death in his 2012 autobiography, Superfly: The Jimmy Snuka Story. In the book, Snuka presented a different version of the chain of events than he’d previously given, claiming that Argentino hit her head while trying to go to the bathroom at a rest stop.
