Jimmy Kimmel Booked As Host Of The 95th Academy Awards

Jimmy Kimmel has been secured as the host for the 95th Oscars, which will be his third time around at the legendary ceremony. One of the last times Kimmel hosted was the infamous debacle where La La Land was erroneously named Best Picture when the real winner was Moonlight.

Kimmel announced with a dry bit that hosting the show “is either a great honor or a trap. Either way, I am grateful to the Academy for asking me so quickly after everyone good said no.”

The 2022 ceremony, which was co-hosted by Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall, had some awkward host banter and wasn’t particularly smooth, but discussion of the ceremony has been dominated by Will Smith’s slap of Chris Rock.

Kimmel has hosted the Emmy Awareds on three occasions: in 2012, 2016, and 2020 so he will soon have a balanced Award Show hosting resume. He was also criticized at this year’s Emmys ceremony when he laid down and didn’t get up during Quinta Brunson’s acceptance speech.

The telecast will begin at March 12, 2023 at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood on ABC. Kimmel is an ABC mainstay who recently renewed his contract to spend several more years as the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live!

There are a raft of films that are considered frontrunners for Oscar gold. Movies like Tár, The Whale, Triangle of Sadness, Elvis and White Noise have had successful festival runs and will likely submit their leads for consideration in the Acting categories. Other more action-oriented films like Everthing Everywhere All At Once, Top Gun: Maverick, The Woman King have also been well-received and could get some recognition at the Academy Awards.
