Jim Parsons and Todd Spiewak have been dating for 14 years, as of Nov. 2016.
Parsons came out as gay in May 2012, when the New York Times referred to him as “gay and in a 10-year-relationship.” Parsons, the star of The Big Bang Theory, quietly embraced being out of the closet. During his 2013 Emmy acceptance speech, he thanked his boyfriend by saying, “To my favorite person on the planet, Todd Spiewak.”
Spiewak is an art director and graphic designer, and works with various clients such as American Express, Barnes & Noble, and HP. In 2013, the couple was awarded the Inspiration Award at the 9th Annual GLSEN Respect Awards.
“I’ve never considered myself an activist. I’ve never considered my relationship with Todd to be an act of activism. Rather simply, it’s an act of love, coffee in the morning, going to work, washing the clothes, taking the dogs [out]—a regular life, boring love,” said Parsons in their acceptance speech. “Now all this said, no one is giving us an award for activism. I realize this. If we are indeed inspiration to others by simply being who we are and living our lives in the way that feels right to us then we have to thank the same people who help any other couple who continue a successful relationship—our friends and family. We are both surrounded by so many people who make our lives better and easier, friends we’ve had for many years and friends we’ve made since living in L.A.”
And at the end, Spiewak took the mic and said, “Well, as always, Jim didn’t leave much for me to say.”
On Parsons and Spiewak’s anniversary on Nov. 15, 2016, the actor posted a photo with a sweet caption to his Instagram page. “I met this guy 14 years ago today and it was the best thing that ever happened to me, no contest,” Parsons wrote. “One of his greatest gifts to me is that he no longer takes me to sing karaoke. Also, I believe this was a selfie with an actual camera, as our phones couldn’t do that back then hahaha! #todd #anniversary.”
In addition, the couple started production company called That’s Wonderful Productions, LLC. According to Deadline, they are producing a series that “will follow exceptionally gifted and precocious young people as they navigate lives where their outsized talents and abilities offer them limitless opportunities but sometimes at the expense of” being a child.
