Jim Carrey is suiting up for Kick-Ass 2, the superhero satire sequel due out this summer.
The original Kick-Ass came out in 2010, a genre satire based on the hyper-violent comic book of the same name by Mark Millar. It followed Kick-Ass (formerly known as Dave Lizewski) and a group of other civilians as they try their hands as crime-fighting vigilantes. It starred British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the title character and Nicholas Cage as former cop Big Daddy.
Carey, who was not in the original film, will join the franchise as Colonel Stars and Stripes. As the Colonel, he'll enter the ranks of Kick-Ass to take down the bad guys. Sporting fatigues and a conspicuous olive green eye-mask, Col. Stars and Stripes outfits his German Shepherd sidekick with a patriotic stars-and-stripes mask. They'll both be helping Kick-Ass fend off villian Red Mist, played by Christopher Mintz-Plasse.
While the first installment of the franchise met with some criticism for its tongue-in-cheek extreme violence, it faired well in the box office and has since amassed a cult following. Kick-Ass 2 will open in theaters on June 28.
