Jill Duggar and Derrick Dillard, the 19 Kids and Counting stars, have revealed that their firstborn child is going to be a boy.
Duggar and Dillard revealed the sex of their baby on Tuesday after learning that it was going to be a boy over the weekend. “As a new dad, to have a firstborn son to be our first child and be the leader of his siblings, it is very special,” said Dillard, 25. “I was praying for a big, healthy baby."
During their ultrasound appointment on Saturday, the newlyweds were goined by three of Duggar's siblings – Joy, 17, James, 13, and Jenny, 7. While Duggar, 23, thought she was carrying a girl, her parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar believed it was a boy. "They were just elated," Duggar said.
Though Duggar has followed in Jim Bob and Michelle's footsteps in many ways, she doesn't plan to carry on their tradition of naming each child with a name that starts with "J." Duggar said, "We are not going to do a letter theme, but we may do some kind of theme, like family names.”
Duggar and Dillard wed on June 21 in Sprindale, Ark., before more that 1,000 guests. Less than two months after tying the knot, the couple revealed that they were expecting their first child.
"Most people, the reason why they wouldn't share pregnancy news early, [they] are afraid of miscarriage risks," Duggar explained to People at the time. "We prayed about it, and the film crew asked us if we wanted to wait. But we knew we would share if we did miscarry. We believe that life is precious no matter how young and you would still want to remember that baby."
