President Joe Biden‘s wife, First Lady Jill Biden, fiercely defended her family against relentless attacks by House Republicans.
She specifically addressed the display of nude photographs of her stepson, Hunter Biden, in congressional hearings. She described these actions as “horrible” and “cruel” and highlighted the cruelty inflicted upon her son.
“I love my son,” Jill told MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski. “It’s hurt my grandchildren. That’s what I’m so concerned about, that it’s affecting their lives as well.”
The first lady’s interview aired shortly after Hunter unexpectedly appeared at a contempt hearing on Capitol Hill, which resulted in chaos when Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) displayed lewd photos of him.
House Republicans have relentlessly targeted Hunter and claimed that Biden used his position for personal gain through his son’s business ventures.
The president has consistently denied any involvement in his son’s business affairs. When asked about the criticisms leveled against her family, such as derogatory labels like the “Biden crime family” and attacks on her husband’s character, Jill underscored her determination. “Oh, that makes me want to be in the fight even more because we have to win,” she said. “We must win. We cannot let go of our democracy.”
Jill denounced the extremism displayed by factions like MAGA Republicans and echoed her husband’s criticisms on the campaign trail. She lamented the transformation of the country caused by extremists and emphasized that such behavior was unimaginable just a decade ago.
She also defended Biden’s health and reframed his advanced age as an asset, with an emphasis on his wisdom, experience, and extensive knowledge of world leaders and history. While concerns about Biden’s age have been raised in some polls, Jill and the president’s team have sought to position his experience as a strength.
In the interview, she shed light on his tireless commitment to his duties, working late into the night, speaking with world leaders, members of his cabinet, and individuals facing personal challenges.
When asked about the prospect of not winning a second term, Jill admitted she couldn’t bear to think about it.
