JFK Jr. Wanted Madonna To Pose As Jackie O

Several years ago, pop icon Madonna turned down an opportunity to pose as First Lady legend Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis on the cover of George Magazine.

Jackie's political guru son, John F. Kennedy Jr., the publisher of George, wanted the image to grace the cover of the 1996 "Women in Politics" issue of the magazine. "I think we should dress Madonna up as my mother," he suggested, according to Fairy Tale Interrupted, an upcoming memoir by RoseMarie Terenzio, Kennedy's former publicist. "Wouldn't that be a riot?" he reportedly said. Though Terenzio was reportedly unimpressed by the suggestion, Kennedy had his vision intact, proposing that the cover should "have her in a pillbox hat, sitting on a stack of books."

It had been rumored at the time that Kennedy and Madonna had engaged in a brief fling a few years prior. These rumors, and the general reputation Madonna held at the time, would have turned the incident into what Terenzio promises would have been a "media sh*tstorm." The pictorial was never shot, but not for a lack of trying.

The Material Girl declined Kennedy's offer in a letter addressed to "Dear Johnny Boy." She wrote, "Thanks for asking me to be your mother but I could never do her justice. My eyebrows aren't thick enough, for one. When you want me to portray Eva Braun or Pamela Harriman, I might say yes! Hope you're well. Love, Madonna."

Terenzio worked as Kennedy's publicist until his death in 1999, two years before George Magazine closed. The person who finally graced the famous cover was Drew Barrymore, who posed as Marilyn Monroe. Fairy Tale Interrupted will hit bookstores this month.
