Country crooner Jewel and her husband, professional bull rider Ty Murray, had their first child, a 7 lb., 6 oz. son named Kase Townes, early Monday night in Texas, where the couple live on a ranch.

"Ty and I are so pleased to welcome our new baby boy into the world," Jewel told People. "We are overcome with happiness — it really is as great as everyone told us it would be — better even!"

After the duo's low-key wedding in the Bahamas in 2008, they tried several times, unsuccessfully, to conceive. When Jewel finally did find out she was pregnant, she was filming Bravo's show, Platinum Hit. "I took a pregnancy test and it was positive!" she said of the incident after she had revealed her pregnancy, which wasn't right away. "It was so hard to keep it a secret."

Five months later, the singer was involved in a traffic collision in which her car was hit by a fire truck. Neither she nor the baby were injured, though she later admitted on Twitter to feeling "real sore and banged up." Jewel credits her car for saving her life and protecting her unborn baby. "Definitely going to get another Cadillac SRX," she wrote after the collision. "It absorbed all the damage and kept me safe!"

In 2009, Jewel released an album of children's songs called Lullaby.
