Aryn Drake-Lee, the estranged wife of Grey’s Anatomy actor Jesse Williams is seeking sole legal and physical custody of their two children.
The couple filed for divorce in April after five years of marriage. Drake-Lee paints Williams as a bad parent who puts his career ahead of his family and children. “[Williams] has not recognized and prioritized the children’s schedule over his own and their need to maintain it daily, even on weekends, whether or not a parent is working,” she stated in court documents. She also claims she had to rely on the nanny to co-parent as Williams “worked as an actor and went on to do and travel for promotional engagements, social activism, and other things he called ‘business,’ whether they were conferences, graduations, or elongated weekend stays after a single event.”
Drake-Lee has also requested that Williams stop sharing images of their children, Sadie, 3, and Maceo, 2, on social media, as she believes the actor is posting their photos for personal gain, to support his “brand.” Further, Drake-Lee claims that Williams has introduced their children to new relationships before six months of dating.
“These are matters for the court to decide,” a representative for Williams said in a statement. “Jesse has been working tirelessly to maintain his bond with their children and it is important to note that the dramatizations made in Aryn’s declaration are a one-sided account made with a specific goal in mind. The judge is fully informed on both sides of the story and will be making the final decision.”
Rumors that Williams had an affair with Minka Kelly while he was still married have popped up, and now the actors have been spotted together as an item. Worse so, Drake-Lee describes a road rage incident from July, when Williams was flipped off by a neighbor after an argument, and the actor supposedly drove after him in his car, with his children inside.
While Williams has yet to address the cheating and rage claims, he has made a plea for joint legal and physical custody of the kids in June. “I have repeatedly asked for more time with the children but Aryn, who insists that all of our communications be strictly through counsel which results in unnecessary delay and costs, has either ignored my requests or flatly refused without explanation,” Williams stated in the filing. “I am therefore requesting a Court order for a joint physical custody parenting plan… so that Aryn will no longer be the sole, unregulated gatekeeper of my custodial time with our children.”
Williams has since taken to Twitter, saying simply, “Desperate times call for desperate measures,” which many take as a reference to Drake-Lee’s claims.
