Brooklyn-born funnyman Jerry Seinfeld will be setting up shop in the Beacon Theatre for a special six-show resedency, New York Daily News reports, and it’s all thanks to Billy Joel.
The stint will be something of a homecoming for the 61-year-old comedian and he says he was inspired to do it after witnessing Billy Joel sing “New York State of Mind” to a sold out Madison Square Garden.
“It sounds different, it feels different than when he does it in Charlotte,” Seinfeld said.
Explaining the unique buzz of performing in his hometown and reconnecting with his roots, Seinfeld told the Daily News:
“I did a benefit for my wife’s charity [at the Beacon] a few weeks ago and I was doing this thing about people who tell you, ‘You would love it’ when they’re trying to get you to do something. ‘You have to go. That’s a New York thing and the laugh I got here from that was different from anyplace else. I like that.”
“Jerry Seinfeld: The Home Stand” kicks of Jan 7, and will continue one show a month until June 8.
