Jerry Seinfeld‘s collection of Porches and Volkswagens sold for a total of $22 million at the Amelia Island Auction in Florida over the weekend.
“The room was electric from the beginning and the crowd’s intensity only grew when Mr. Seinfeld joined [Auctioneer Charlie Ross] and me on stage to present his stunning offerings,” David Gooding, the president of auction house Gooding & Company, said in a statement Sunday.
At the auction, Seinfeld’s biggest take was $5.3 million for his 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder. He sold a 1959 Porsche 718 RSK for $2.9 million and a 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 for $2.3 million. Seinfeld also sold a 1964 Volkswagen camper for $99,000 and a 1960 VW Beetle for $121,000.
In total, Seinfeld put up 18 cars for action, selling 17 of them for $22,244,500.
The one car Seinfeld didn’t sell was a 2000 Porsche Carrera GT Prototype that failed to get a high enough bid
While Seinfeld is known as one of the biggest car collectors in Hollywood, the comedian says he’s never bought one with the hope of selling it for a profit.
“I don’t really even think of myself as a collector. I just love cars. And I still love these cars,” Seinfeld said in a statement back in January. “But it’s time to send some of them back into the world, for someone else to enjoy, as I have.”
