Jerry Seinfeld denied Kesha a hug in an awkward, on-camera interaction.
The comedian was giving an interview on the red carpet at the David Lynch Foundation’s “Night of Laughter and Song,” when apparent superfan Kesha dashed forward. “Hi I’m Kesha, I love you so much,” she said. “Can I give you a hug?”
“No thanks,” was Seinfeld’s stern reply.
“Please?”
“No, thanks.”
“A little one?” she asked, stepping closer.
“Yeah, no thanks,” he said, taking a step back.
It was clear he had no idea who she was, and Kesha decided to just run away. “I don’t know who that was,” Seinfeld mused to the interviewer, Tommy McFly from 94.7 Fresh FM’s The Tommy Show. When he was informed, “That was Kesha,” the comic simply said, “Oh okay, well I wish her the best.”
The cringeworthy interaction has become the subject of countless memes since the night it happened. It appears Twitter is unsure who is at fault here, but many understand Seinfeld’s reaction. In any case, it certainly made for an awkward encounter that everyone can cringe at.
