Amid swirling allegations of an abusive sex cult, R. Kelly has now been accused on having sex with a minor and sexual abuse by Jerhonda Pace (then Jerhonda Johnson).
Pace, now 24, claims that the rapper, 50, had an underage sexual relationship with her that became abusive on multiple occasions. Despite signing a nondisclosure agreement and reportedly accepting cash settlements, Pace has come forward with her story in the hopes of helping others.
“If I can speak out and I can help them get out of that situation, that’s what I will do,” Pace said. “I didn’t have anybody to speak up on my behalf when I was going through what I was going through with him. He’s brainwashed them really bad, and it kind of reminds me of Charles Manson. I just really hope I can help these women out. Kelly needs to be stopped.”
In Pace’s story, she claims that she first met Kelly when she was 15. In 2008, she attended his child pornography trial proceedings every day until he was acquitted. She met him again face to face in 2009, after Kelly’s friend and employee invited Pace to a party at the singer’s mansion. She says she and Kelly engaged in oral sex that night. She was 16, but says she did not disclose her age at the time. She also alleges that she returned to his mansion four days later, where he gave her an alcoholic beverage before the two had sex.
Pace says their relationship lasted seven months and that Kelly filmed many of their sexual encounters without her permission. She also says that she told Kelly of her real age in July 2009, and that he just told her “things were fine,” and instructed her to “tell anyone who asked that she was 19, and act like she was 25.”
Kelly has denied all allegations. “The allegations against Mr. Kelly are false, and are being made by individuals known to be dishonest,” his rep said in a statement. “It is clear these continuing stories are the result of the effort of those with personal agendas who are working in concert to interfere with and damage his career. Mr. Kelly again denies any and all wrong doing and is taking appropriate legal action to protect himself from ongoing defamation.”
Pace, for her part, is aware that coming forward breaks her nondisclosure agreement. “I know speaking out against Kelly, Kelly could sue me,” she admitted. “But I’m really not worried about it anymore. I feel like this is a healing process for me, because I’ve been holding this in for so many years, and to see that he always gets away with it, it’s just not right.”
