After a New Year’s snow plow accident at his Reno, Nevada property left Jeremy Renner with extensive injuries, the Hawkeye star has been updating fans on his recovery journey via social media.

According to a statement from his representative, the actor was taken on a care flight and hospitalized on January 1 for severe chest trauma and orthopedic injuries, undergoing immediate surgery the next day.

He was run over by a 14,000-pound snowcat, and it was less than a week away from his 52nd birthday. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, which responded to the injury at around 9 a.m. on New Year’s Day, is investigating the incident, though its accident investigation team stated that Renner was the only party involved.

After an unforgiving snowstorm brought dangerous conditions for drivers and families, Renner had been clearing snow in his driveway so that family members could leave his home safely after spending the holidays there.

On January 3, Renner, out of surgery, posted his first update to his fans on Instagram, taking an opportunity to send love and thank them for their support despite being “too messed up to type” more.

He remained in the intensive care unit in critical but stable condition. On January 6, he uploaded an Instagram story with his mother Valerie Cearley and sister Kym Renner, calling Kym’s massage for him a “spa moment.”

Kym is hopeful about her brother’s recovery, sharing that he is “crushing” all progress milestones and that he doesn’t “mess around.”

Meanwhile, friends, including co-star Mark Ruffalo, have asked fans to keep Renner in their wishes as he continues to heal.

In their statement, Renner’s representative moreover said that, “Jeremy’s family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses looking after him, Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, Washoe County Sheriff, Reno City Mayor Hillary Schieve and the Carano and Murdock families. They are also tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans.”

Despite his injuries, Renner asked fans to watch the Season 2 premiere of his show Mayor of Kingstown, tweeting, “Let me know what you think !!!”
