Jennifer Rosoff fell off of her apartment's balcony in New York City’s Upper East Side on Thursday while on a first date.
Around 1 a.m. Thursday morning, Rosoff was smoking a cigarette on the balcony of her 17th- floor apartment, located on the corner of 1st Ave and 57th Street. Her date warned her as she leaned against the railing, and within seconds, the railing gave way. Rosoff fell backward and was in free fall until she landing on construction scaffolding on the first floor, reported CBS.
When police arrived at the scene, Rosoff was declared dead. They spoke with Rosoff’s date and determined that no foul play had been involved in her death and ruled that alcohol had not been a factor in the incident.
Stonehenge 57, Rosoff’s apartment building, issued a statement on the heartbreaking accident. “By now most of you have probably heard about the recent tragedy,” the statement read. “Our sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of Ms. Rosoff. We have reached out to the family to express these sentiments personally. We are cooperating fully with the investigation into the cause of this terrible accident.”
New York City's Department of Buildings is investigating the scene and the building's other railings. Until all inspections have been completed, Stonehenge 57 residents are ordered to refrain from using their balconies.
Rosoff had worked as a director of sales at new media startup Triple Lift. She’d previously worked at The New Yorker, Lucky Magazine and Cosmopolitan. She was an alumnus of Tulane University in New Orleans.
