Jennifer Lopez celebrated the end of 2020 by performing a set in Times Square minutes before the famous ball dropped, ringing in the new year. The 51-year-old pop star headlined the 49th annual Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve on ABC.
While performing her newest single, “In The Morning,” J.Lo took a moment to reflect on the challenges and people we lost in 2020. “2020 is almost over. We made it. We made it,” she said. “If this year taught us anything, it taught us to be grateful for what we do have – to cherish every moment. We lost too many. Too many.”
Along with her new song, Lopez performed a medley of some of her biggest hits, including “Dance Again,” “Waiting for Tonight” and covered Aerosmith‘s “Dream On” while stunning in a silver, sparkly bodysuit under a white, feathery cape, pairing with a sparkly headpiece.
“Tonight we’re going to live, we’re going to love and we’re going to dance again,” she said in reference to her song “Dance Again.” “And we’re going to keep on dreaming. Twenty years ago, I sang this song and we never needed it more than tonight,” she also said hopefully.
Lopez was joined with her family in Times Square. Her fiancee Alex Rodriguez, his daughters, Natasha and Ella, Lopez’s twins, Max and Emme and Lopez’s mother all celebrated the new year together.
Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve was hosted by Ryan Seacrest, Lucy Hale, Billy Porter and Ciara. The special also featured performances by Miley Cyrus, Cyndi Lauper, Doja Cat, Lewis Capaldi and others.
The holiday was also the first time in a century where Times Square saw no crowds waiting to see the ball drop at midnight due to the coronavirus pandemic. The special was only available to watch on TV and featured a dozen first responder families in attendance, following COVID-19 guidelines.
