After reports of Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez spending the last month to work on their relationship, the couple announced that they have officially broken up.
The pair released a joint statement on Thursday about their split on Thursday.
“We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so,” the statement said. “We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have is to say thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”
Following break-up rumors in March, the pair announced that they were “working on some things.”
Shortly after, Rodriguez flew to the Dominican Republic to visit Lopez as she shot her new film Shotgun Wedding, they pair seemed happy to see each other and to work on their relationship.
In February, Lopez revealed to Allure that they recently went to couples therapy. “I think it was really helpful for us in our relationship.”
In March 2019, Lopez and Rodriguez got engaged in the Bahamas after being together for two years. The pair spent most of 2020 quarantining together with both of their children but the ongoing pandemic meant that their wedding had to be postponed twice.
“We postponed the wedding twice,” JLo told Elle. “We had planned what we really, really wanted to do [but] I don’t know if we’ll be able to re-create that. We canceled it and since then we haven’t really talked about it. There’s no rush. We want to do it right when we can do it.”
