CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - FEBRUARY 16: Jennifer Hudson performs a tribute to Kobe Bryant before the 69th NBA All-Star Game at the United Center on February 16, 2020 in Chicago, Illinois.
On Sunday night, Jennifer Hudson reached the elite EGOT status, by winning her first Tony for producing the musical A Strange Loop, adding on to her Emmy, Grammy and Oscar awards.
Hudson had begun her EGOT journey in 2007 when she won her first Oscar for best supporting actress in Dreamgirls. She then won a Grammy for best R&B album for her Jennifer Hudson debut in 2009, and another one in 2017 for The Color Purple as the best musical theater album. And just last year, she received a Daytime Emmy for best interactive media as an executive producer for the virtual-reality animated movie Baba Yaga.
The actress has become the second black woman to have received all four of the major American entertainment awards after Whoopi Goldberg, who became the first in 2002. Hudson is also the third-youngest EGOT winner, and the first who was a former American Idol contestant.
