Jennifer Aniston can’t say enough positive things about going makeup-free on the set of her new movie Cake.
Aniston appeared on Deadline's "Contenders" panel last weekend to discuss her film Cake, which is already garnering some Oscar buzz for the former Friends star. For Aniston, as soon as she read the script for the dark film, she knew she wanted to be a part of it and "disappear" into the role of Claire Simmons.
"It's our little love project," Aniston said at the panel. "When I read the script, I was ready to disappear."
While Aniston has been filming Cake, much has been made of her nondescript appearance on set. Her vibrant dark blond locks were dyed a mousey brown and cut to just below her chin. Aniston's face was also completely devoid of makeup and riddled with harsh scars – a result of her character's car accident. Aniston found the experience of going makeup free in Cake anything but daunting.
She said it was, "so fabulous—so dreamy and empowering and liberating," adding, "The only time I had to sit in the makeup chair was just for the scars."
When Cake screened at the Toronto International Film Festival back in September, Aniston's transformation in the film had viewers taking note of her impressive performance. Chief among the compliments was the movie star's lack of self-consciousness.
"[Aniston] really went there, to the point that even her fellow actors were truly impressed with her performance." a source told Us Weekly. "She left all the self-consciousness behind her. People were really blown away."
Cake hits theaters in limited release this weekend. It also stars Anna Kendrick, Sam Worthington, Mamie Gummer, Chris Messina and Felicity Huffman.
