After many months of preemptive rumors — and shortly after ex-husband Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's own engagement — it’s finally happening: Friends star Jennifer Aniston, 43, confirmed yesterday that she is engaged to actor and screenwriter Justin Theroux after he proposed to the actress on his 41st birthday. "Justin Theroux had an amazing birthday on Friday, receiving an extraordinary gift when his girlfriend, Jennifer Aniston, accepted his proposal of marriage," Theroux’s rep told People.

Aniston and Theroux met each other five years ago on the set of Tropic Thunder — co-written by Theroux and Ben Stiller — but they didn’t begin dating until 2011, when they co-starred in Wanderlust. The couple went public that summer and recently purchased a $21 million mansion in Los Angeles. This will be Theroux’s first marriage and Aniston’s second, but she insists that the prospect of marriage and kids doesn’t determine her happiness. "It's very narrow-minded, I think. It doesn't measure the level or my happiness or success in my life and my achievements or any of that," Aniston told CBS earlier this year, adding that she was the happiest she’d ever been.
