Jennette McCurdy, ahead of the premiere of her Netflix series Between, is clearing the air about her alleged feud with Sam & Cat costar Ariana Grande.

According to McCurdy, the reports about them not getting along were far from the truth. While the former Disney Channel star admits that there were disagreements between the two, they were more like those between sisters than between competing actresses.

“I just feel that, you know Ariana and I were and are extremely close and very like-minded in a lot of different ways and then, sorta as the show dissolved, everybody wanted to find some sort of hidden meaning in our relationship,” McCurdy told E! News. “Some like drama and I think we butted heads at times but in a very sisterly way. She knows me so well and I know her so well that I think it was unfortunate that things kind of got misconstrued.”

“There is certainly like a friend dynamic but then once you’re around that person for—I mean,Carly, Sam & Cat—once we didn’t have child labor laws we could work like 16 hours a day so you are around these people constantly and It’s just natural that you’re gonna have ups and downs,” McCurdy continued. “But you bond so much and you’re so close that you can’t go through that experience and…I can’t imagine a world where you would not come out extreme friends. I mean I have bonds with both Miranda Cosgrove and Ariana that are impenetrable.”

Not long after Sam & Cat went off the air, McCurdy penned a statement that she posted to Reddit. In the statement, the 22-year-old actress tried to shed her role model image.

“I am not a role model. I don’t claim to be, I don’t try to be, and I don’t want to be. There was a time when I tried to live up to the aggrandizing title, that pedestal of a thing. Maybe it wasn’t so much that I was trying to live up to it,” she wrote. “Perhaps I thought I could and I thought I was supposed to, so I gave it my best shot.”

Unlike most of Netfix’s original series, Between‘s episodes will be released in weekly installments. Between, which takes place in a town where everyone dies in a disease except those 21-years-old and younger, will premiere May 21.
