Jenna Wolfe, Weekend Today show anchor, came out of the closet by announcing her engagement to NBC foreign correspondent Stephanie Gosk, and that they have a baby on the way.
Wolfe, 39, appeared on the Today show on Wednesday, and talked to Matt Lauer, Al Roker and Savannah Guthrie about the happy news. “I’m actually pregnant. I’m quite pregnant actually. My girlfriend, Stephanie Gosk, and I, who works here at NBC, we’re expecting a baby girl at the end of August,” she revealed.
Wolfe and Gosk, 40, decided that Wolfe would carry their child, and used artificial insemination with an anonymous donor. While they are engaged and looking to get married in the future, right now they’re more focused on bringing a healthy child into the world. Wolfe is due on Aug. 27.
The fiancés sat down together for an interview with People in an issue that will hit newsstands on Friday, and took the opportunity to explain why they’ve chosen to go public with their engagement and pregnancy.
“I don’t want to bring my daughter into a world where I’m not comfortable telling everyone who I am and who her mother is,” Wolfe, 39, told the magazine.
“The beauty is that we live in a time where there’s no need for secrecy,” Gosk, 40, added. “This is a spectacular moment for us.”
Wolfe and Gosk’s timely announcement came on the second day of hearings in which issues of marriage equality were put before the Supreme Court.
