Jen Arnold Undergoes Last Chemotherapy Treatment, Announces Cancer Is In Remission
Dr. Jennifer Arnold, co-star of TLC’s The Little Couple with her husband, Bill Klein, has announced that after months of aggressive treatment, her cancer is in remission.
Arnold announced her good news on Twitter, declaring herself victorious against cancer and thanking her followers, writing, “Thank you for all the prayers, thoughts, & support!”
The Cancer Diagnosis
Arnold first announced her diagnosis – stage 3 choriocarcinoma – in December, saying that she would be “undergoing treatment, including surgery and chemotherapy.” Now Arnold is announcing more details about her diagnosis, revealing to People that she was diagnosed after a failed pregnancy and suffered various complications during treatment. Her skeletal dysplasia, a condition that causes dwarfism, presented a challenge for doctors calibrating her chemotherapy dosages and Arnold developed pneumonia after a surgery.
“It actually got harder as more time went on. Some weeks were more difficult than others with different side effects. I had a lot of fatigue and nausea and some days it just felt like my hands and feet were very heavy,” Arnold tells People.
Arnold Is Officially Done With Chemo
For now, Arnold is cautiously optimistic about her health, and she will undergo weekly blood tests to make sure that her cancer does not resurface. Those tests will eventually become monthly and then yearly the more time Arnold is cancer free.
“I had my official last chemo treatment. And while I’m hesitant to say I’m cancer-free – maybe that’s common for people who have had cancer – I’m doing great. Everything is moving in the right direction. I am very excited,” Arnold says.
Arnold, a mother of two adopted children, Will, 3, and Zoey, 2, who, along with her husband also have a form of dwarfism, says her husband and children were key in her recovery.
“Bill knows when I’m not doing well and he takes such good care of me. That was huge. That and enjoying watching my children play was a huge uplifting part of my treatment. With kids running around, you don’t have much time to feel sorry for yourself,” she explained.
While Arnold still has a long road ahead of her in terms of recovery, she says she is extremely anxious to return to her old self, without having chemo side effects affect her daily life:
“Sometimes I get a little winded when I walk around more and I have that fuzzy chemo brain at times, but I am very excited and happy to be where I am right now. I want to get stuff done. I am anxious to get back to my normal self.”
