Jeff Goldblum sparked controversy last week when he said in an interview he would consider working with Woody Allen again. Goldblum had played a small, unnamed part in the director’s Best Picture-winning 1977 film Annie Hall. The iconic director has most been in the news not for his cinematic works, but for decades-old sexual misconduct allegations.
In a 2013 interview with Vanity Fair, Dylan Farrow, Allen’s adoptive daughter, spoke out about the abuse she suffered from her father. She made statements about Allen touching her inappropriately and forcing her to sleep in bed with him with minimal clothing.

Despite these allegations, Goldblum said, “I think there is a presumption of innocence until proven guilty.” Goldblum is not the only actor who has come to the director’s defense. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Scarlett Johansson said, “I love Woody. I believe him, and I would work with him anytime.”
The two actors have received major backlash on social media since they made their comments on Allen – especially because both have claimed to be big supporters of the #MeToo movement.
In 2018, Johansson made a speech at a Time’s Up rally, in which she called out James Franco for his sexual misconduct.
