Jay Z, Beyonce & Solange Release Joint Statement Regarding Elevator Incident

Jay Z, Beyonce and Solange have finally broken their silence on the infamous elevator incident in which Solange could be seen attempting to attack Jay-Z while Beyonce watched on impassively.

Jay Z, Beyonce and Solange Release Statement

On Thursday, a week and a half after the incident and days after the video of the encounter was leaked, the three released a statement that indicated they’d patched things up. Though the statement claims that the brother and sister-in-law had made amends and accepted joint fault, it gave no indication as to the nature of the argument that sparked the physical attack.

"As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it," Jay, Solange and Beyoncé said in a statement. "Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.”

"The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behavior throughout that evening are simply false,” the statement added. “At the end of the day, families have problems and we're no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We've put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same."

Beyonce, Jay Z and Solange had been departing a Met Gala after party at The Standard Hotel in Manhattan when Beyonce’s little sister lunged towards the “Holy Grail” rapper in the elevator in a scene captured in a video obtained by TMZ. Beyonce appeared to stay out of the fray, while a bodyguard restrained her sister. Afterwards, Beyonce got into a waiting car with Solange, while Jay Z took a separate ride.

There has been ample speculation and a slew of rumors about what started the altercation. The prevailing theory is that designer Rachel Roy was shamelessly hitting on Jay Z, who didn’t do much to stop her flirting. It’s also been suggested that Solange may have been angry at Jay Z for failing to give her career the help he promised and that Jay Z was mad at Solange for letting her friends use his name to get into the after party.
