Jay Leno, 72, is recovering from a recent motorcycle accident that broke several of his bones. This comes just months after he was severely burned by a gasoline fire in his garage, including third-degree burns to his face.
The talk show host said last week that he was knocked off his vintage motorcycle and injured with broken ribs and two cracked kneecaps in a crash near Burbank, California.
He explained that he was heading back to his garage on his motorcycle. “So I turn around, I start to cut through a parking lot,” Leno said. “And there was a wire across two poles which was not well marked and, boom, I just got — it clotheslined me, hit me in the neck and threw me off the bike.”
Leno said he felt somewhat guilty about getting injured so soon after recovering from his burns.
The incident occurred alongside CNBC canceling Jay Leno’s Garage, a show where Leno does classic car and motorcycle reviews.
Despite his series of injuries, he said that he’ll continue doing standup. He’s scheduled to debut at the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas on March 31.
Leno made an attempt to make light of his situation on Twitter with a joke referring to actor Jeremy Renner‘s snowplow accident. Many found this comment offensive.
One person replied, “Not funny. Renner broke 30 bones in the process of saving his nephew’s life. Respect to the guy. Pure guts.”
Renner survived a serious accident that put him in critical condition on New Year’s Day.
