Jay Benedict, ‘Aliens’ Actor, Dies At 68 From Coronavirus

Aliens and Dark Night Rises actor Jay Benedict died on Saturday from complications related to coronavirus. He was 68.

Benedict is one of the latest celebrities to die from the coronavirus. He may be best known for his appearances as Newt’s father in Aliens and “rich twit” in The Dark Night Rises. He also played John Kieffer in the TV show Foyle’s War, and Doug Hamilton in the UK series Emmerdale. He provided the voice for Shiro Hagen in the Saturday morning show Star Fleet X-Bomber, too.

Benedict was born in California, but lived in Europe for more than 50 years. So, he was accustomed to playing both British and American characters. His voice was used in video games, commercials, and documentaries.

“The irritatingly soothing voice requesting that you take your seat and switch off your mobile phone is quite probably him: so now you know who to blame,” said his website.

He was also a theatre actor, appearing in Outside Edge Theatre Company’s One Day at a Time, and The Trial Of Jane Fonda in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear client Jay Benedict, who this afternoon lost his battle with COVID-19. Our thoughts are with his family,” wrote Benedict’s management company on Twitter.
