A nugget of hope for patient Arrested Development fans: Jason Bateman says the movie still might happen, and he is still interested. “As far as I know, [creator] Mitchell Hurwitz is working on the script and he wants to start shooting at some point this year,” Bateman told Entertainment Weekly. “So while I haven’t heard anything new, I haven’t heard anything that would contradict that.”
“The show was a career saver for me,” adds Bateman, who stars in this summer’s Horrible Bosses and The Change Up. “And also happened to be the job I’m most proud of, so of course I would want to jump back in there again.”
Followers of the cult and critical favorite, which aired on FOX but was canceled after three seasons, have been desperate for details after narrator (Ron Howard) alluded to the possibility of a film in the final scene of the final episode in 2006. Rumors about the existence of a script, lack of interest, and conflicting filming schedules have had Bateman and costars Will Arnett, Michael Cera, David Cross, Jeffrey Tambor, Jessica Walter, Portia DiRossi and Alia Shawkat fielding questions from curious fans ever since.
