Jason And David Benham Say HGTV Was Bullied By Gay Activists To Cancel 'Flip It Forward'

Jason and David Benham, the twin brothers who were set to star in HGTV’s Flip It Forward, are defending themselves against critics accusing them of being anti-gay and speaking out about the abrupt cancelation of their show.

Jason And David Benham Fired For Anti-Gay Beliefs

On Wednesday, May 7, HGTV announced that it had decided to pull the plug from their upcoming reality series Flip It Forward. The series was created for Jason and David Benham, twin brothers who own a successful real estate business flipping houses. In the show, Jason and David would help families in need fix up run down houses, essentially teaching them the art of flipping houses. Production was underway when remarks made by David in 2012 went viral, causing widespread outrage.

“…we have abortion on demand; we have no-fault divorce; we have pornography and perversion; we have a homosexuality and its agenda that is attacking the nation,” David told a conservative radio show during his protest of the Democratic National Convention.

Benham Brothers React To Cancellation

The Benham brothers responded to the controversy after HGTV made their announcement, insisting that they have been wrongly presented in the media.

“Anyone who suggests we hate homosexuals or people of other faiths is either misinformed or lying…We do not, nor will we ever discriminate against people who do not share our views,” they wrote.

The brothers also stated their intentions to finish what they started and help the six families that had begun filming finish fixing up their homes.

“We were saddened to hear HGTV’s decision. With all of the grotesque things that can be seen and heard on television today you would think there would be room for two twin brothers who are faithful to our families, committed to biblical principles, and dedicated professionals. If our faith costs us a television show then so be it,” the statement concluded.

Benham Brothers: HGTV Was Bullied By Gay Activists

The brothers have now embarked on a media tour in an effort to set the record straight, appearing on CNN’s New Day and Glenn Beck’s The Blaze radio show, among others. David insists that his quote was taken out of context and that he spoke out against the “[gay] agenda,” not gay individuals, something he views as a fundamental difference.

“Never have I ever spoken against homosexuals as individuals…I speak about an agenda. And that’s really what the point of this is, is that there is an agenda that is seeking to silence the voices of men and women of faith, and that’s what all this is about,” David said.

“We love homosexuals, and we love Muslims, and we have nothing against the people…There’s a difference between the people and the agenda,” David added, insisting that he and his brother love all people and would not discriminate on their show or otherwise.

David and Jason also said that they don’t blame HGTV for cancelling their show. As businessmen, they understand that it was a business decision and say they hold no ill will towards the network.

“We felt that HG was bullied…They were willing to take a chance with us…We absolutely respect HGTV and we absolutely love those folks,” Jason told CNN.

The Benham brothers believe that HGTV was bullied into dumping the show by the “[gay] agenda” and emphasize that HGTV had already vetted them prior to production.

“We had talked with HGTV – over a year ago we had this face-to-face conversation – and they said they saw there is no hate in us,” David said.

“They just didn’t have enough support for our show to make a solid business decision to keep us,” they told Glenn Beck on his conservative talk show Friday morning.

“In terms of Ken’s take on Referendum 74 (same sex marriage vote), if evil is being accepted and appreciated at the national level, aggressive Christian men must lead the charge against it. In the late 1940’s England realized this truth with Neville Chamberlain’s Policy of Appeasement and the Nazi regime,” David said in an Operation Rescue/Save America article.

Operation Rescue/Operation Save America is a pro-life organization that organizes protests in front of women’s health clinics, as well as other establishments they deem to be unchristian, started by David and Jason’s father, Flip Benham.
