Jared Leto’s next feature film project could be in DC Comics' the Suicide Squad as the Joker.
Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are reportedly eyeing Leto to play the Joker, according to The Hollywood Reporter. However, neither the studios nor the actor have confirmed that he’s on the shortlist – or if he’s already landed the part.
Earlier this month, Leto hinted at a big project that he’d soon be announcing, which could very well have been the Suicide Squad. "I do [have my eye on one project]. I am excited about what's happening," he told THR. "There are incredible opportunities and I'm very grateful for them. I'm looking forward to making films again now that the tour is wrapping up. It's going to be an exciting 2015."
Leto added, "I've sworn to keep my mouth shut but I think that very shortly there will be something to talk about, that's for sure."
DC Entertainment has previously announced that David Ayer would be directing the Suicide Squad movie. Tom Hardy, Will Smith and Margot Robbie are all rumored to be circling parts in the superhero flick, according to The Wrap. Jesse Eisenberg, who will be playing Lex Luther in the forthcoming Batman vs Superman movie, is expected to reprise the role in Suicide Squad.
Suicide Squad is slated to hit theaters Aug. 5, 2016.
