Jared Leto showed off his newly long ombréd locks while accepting the Mill Valley Film Festival Award for his portrayal of transgender prostitute Rayon in the Dallas Buyers Club on Thursday.

Leto, 41, joined MVFF host, the California Film Institute, for a Spotlight program to discuss his return to feature films after a four-year hiatus. His turn in Dallas Buyer’s Club, for which he dropped 40 pounds, has gotten Leto critical acclaim and made film fans hopeful that the multitalented entertainer acts with more regularity in the future.

Earlier this year, Leto debuted his striking ombre hairstyle, putting fellow long-haired men and women to shame at the Video Music Awards. Leto, who serves as the frontman for rock group 30 Seconds to Mars, created a Twitter sensation when he walked the red carpet at the music event.

"Jared is the definition of a superstar. He's also naturally cool. The inspiration for this look came months ago when we decided that the classic idea of a rock star didn't really exist anymore," Leto’s hairstylist Chase Kusero told Huffington Post. "Fusing modern punk-grunge style with iconic uncut long hair and bleached painted ends is exactly what was right to accept the VMA for Best Rock Video this year."

Dallas Buyers Club, which screened at the MVFF, is slated to hit theaters Nov. 1.
