Jared Leto Does Drag For 'Candy' Magazine Cover

Jared Leto, The Dallas Buyers Club actor and 30 Seconds To Mars frontman, posed in drag for his Candy magazine cover photo shoot.

Leto sports a pale pink wig, long and heavily mascaraed eyelashes to bring out his blue eyes and bright red lipstick in the cover photo, making him look every bit a Katy Perry doppelgänger.

In his upcoming film The Dallas Buyers Club, Leto plays the part of an AIDS-afflicted transsexual woman. Not only did he lose weight for the role – though not as much as costar Matthew McConaughey – he had to dress convincingly in drag. The process included waxing his legs and plucking his eyebrows, which led the actor to tweet, “Ladies, I feel your pain. What I have learned today: Beauty is pain."

Explaining his body transformation to play his character, Leto told Vulture in November, “Your body goes through weird stages. Sometimes it’s hard to hold on to water. But for me, it’s not about the most weight I can lose; it’s more to represent the character. I’m focused on what it means to be a transsexual woman.”

The Dallas Buyers Club will be released in theaters Dec. 16. In November, Leto will be touring the U.K. with 30 Seconds to Mars.
