Jared Kushner Says He Won’t Serve In A Potential Second Trump Administration

On Tuesday, Jared Kushner, the son-in-law and former senior adviser to former President Donald Trump, revealed his intention to stay out of a potential second Trump administration. Kushner expressed his dedication to his work with Affinity Partners, his investment firm based in Miami.

Previously a key adviser to his father-in-law for four years, Kushner said in an interview at the Axios BFD conference held in Miami, that he plans to continue his private equity company, which raised billions of dollars from Saudi Arabia shortly after he left the White House, even if Trump were to win the November election.

Kushner said, “I’ve really enjoyed the opportunity as a family to be out of the spotlight … and so we’ve both really enjoyed the opportunity to be down here in Florida with the kids.”

While he didn’t fully close the door to future possibilities, Kushner acknowledged that his life has not always followed his planned trajectory and, when pressed by an interviewer, he affirmed that he would decline any job offer from Trump.

Kushner reflected on Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and described it as a “family campaign.” He contrasted that with the present, and noted that the former president now has “a very professionally run campaign” with a strong team supporting him.

“I was very fortunate to play a role in the campaign and then join him in the administration,” Kushner remarked. He further speculated that if Trump were to assume office again, there would likely be an elevated level of competence and professionalism compared to the previous administration.

Kushner’s memoir, Breaking History: A White House Memoir, published in 2022, provided valuable insights into the toxic atmosphere within the Trump administration’s West Wing. It revealed the deeply divisive nature of the relationships among members of his father-in-law’s team, which emerged right from the start of the administration.

Throughout Trump’s presidency, Kushner had a significant influence on the administration’s policy agenda, which extended to a wide range of issues such as the border wall, immigration, China relations, criminal justice reform, trade agreements involving Mexico, Canada and the United States, Middle East affairs and the White House’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Kushner lacked any political experience prior to his position in the White House. He had served as the CEO of Kushner Properties, his family’s real estate development company.

Kushner and his wife, Ivanka Trump, are building a $34 million mansion in Miami, dubbed locals as “Mar-a-Lago 2.”

After mostly staying away from his father-in-law, Kushner has been seen at Trump events more frequently in recent weeks.
