A tourist died after he completed a 764-foot jump from Macau Tower, which is the world’s highest bungee jump.
Hours after achieving this feat, the Japanese man experienced shortness of breath on December 3. He was taken to Conde S. Januario Hospital and later stopped breathing and was pronounced dead.
It was reported by HK01 that the man had no physical injuries, but it is unclear if he was suffering from any health conditions.
The bungee jump operator, Skypark by AJ Hackett, states on their website that clients should share any medical conditions they have with their staff members before participating in any of their activities. These conditions can include high blood pressure, previous surgeries, diabetes, heart conditions and more.
AJ Hackett has shared their sadness about the incident. “When our staff received word that he was feeling unwell after landing, they immediately administered first aid and called the authorities for help. The company is cooperating with relevant government departments.”
The company has been running these activities for over 30 years and has completed 4 million safe jumps, which costs $478 per customer.
Skypark boasts its stellar safety record and shares on its website, “We strive to achieve a high level of safety for our customers and crew.”
An investigation into the accident is currently underway.
In recent years, there have been several fatalities from bungee jumping. A Colombian woman died in July 2021 after she fell 164 feet. In 2018, another woman also died at an indoor park bungee jumping in Colorado.
