Japanese jazz pianist Senri Oe performed songs from his new album Boys & Girls Thursday night at Manhattan’s Tomi Jazz club. Oe, who was a major “J-Pop” star in his home country, made the switch to jazz when one of his bandmates died unexpectedly. In his fifth album, he’s performing jazz versions of some his biggest pop hits. He’s even recently arranged and produced a song for Manhattan Transfer’s Janis Siegel.
