January Jones starred on Mad Men as Betty Draper for the entirety of its six-season run and was sad to say goodbye, but the actress is ready to pursue more varied roles after playing the long-suffering housewife for so many years.

January Jones’ Post ‘Mad Men’ Plans

Mad Men just wrapped up it’s critically acclaimed run this past Monday night. In the finale, titled “Person-to-Person,” Betty learns that Sally (Kiernan Shipka) has told Don (Jon Hamm) about her terminal lung cancer. Though Betty doesn’t die on screen, Jones’ final scene is one of resignation. It’s a sad, but honest end for the character.

With Mad Men behind her, Jones wants to add a number of different kinds of projects to her resume. Already, she has a regular role on Will Forte‘s off-beat comedy series The Last Man on Earth. She also premiered the drama Good Kill at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year.

“I want to take on all kinds of different roles. As an actor you want to do something that’s going to continue to make you grow as a person and as an artist,” Jones told uInterview in an exclusive interview. “I just want to do things that are interesting to read. I mean just great writing and work with people I admire. I don’t have like a set path in mind, but all kinds of different things.”

Jones is slated to reprise the role of Melissa on the second season of The Last Man on Earth, which will hit Fox sometime in the fall.
