‘January 6 Awards Gala,’ Set To Be Held At Trump’s Bedminster Golf Club, Postponed After Public Backlash

The “J6 Awards Gala,” a planned awards ceremony to honor individuals convicted in connection with the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, has been indefinitely postponed.

Initially slated for this week at Donald Trump’s golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, the gala was intended to serve as both a celebration of those charged in relation to January 6 and a fundraiser for their legal expenses. 

While Trump was listed as an “invited speaker,” his attendance was not anticipated.

The gala was promoted as a memorable event to honor 20 jailed supporters of Trump who participated in the Capitol attack and later recorded a song titled “Justice for All” from prison. However, the organizing group, Stand in the Gap, updated their website to indicate that the gala would not proceed as planned, citing the event’s location as “undetermined.”

According to reports from the New York Times, organizers hope to reschedule the gala for after the November 5 presidential election. Numerous right-wing influencers and family members of those jailed for their roles in the January 6 uprising were anticipated to attend. The event was also expected to feature prominent figures such as Rudy Giuliani, who faced legal challenges related to his efforts to contest the 2020 election, and Peter Navarro, who recently served time for contempt of Congress related to the January 6 investigation.

Ticket prices ranged from $1,500 for general admission to $50,000 for a premium table at the VIP reception. Funds raised through the gala were intended to assist the January 6 defendants, who continue to encounter significant legal challenges. 

Fox Business reported that the postponement was attributed to “scheduling conflicts” among invited speakers, although this information did not receive extensive coverage in mainstream media.

Trump has previously called for the release of those imprisoned for their actions on January 6 and labeled them “hostages.” He is up against multiple criminal charges related to his involvement in the events around the Capitol attack and pleaded not guilty. Trump has indicated that he would consider pardoning January 6 defendants if he were to return to the presidency.

As the 2024 election campaign heats up, recent polling shows a neck-in-neck race between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, with Harris holding a slight lead.
