Janet Jackson and her husband Wissam Al Mana have officially split up, just over three months after the birth of their first child.
The separation may bring some financial implications as well, as al Mana is worth a significant amount more than Jackson. She is worth an estimated $175 million, while he is put at roughly $1 billion. Jackson had a prenuptial agreement with her second husband, Rene Elizondo, so chances are she had one with al Mana also.
Prenups are usually made with 5 and 10 year markers, meaning the longer a couple is married, the bigger the settlement will be. Jackson originally announced her marriage to al Mana in Feb. 2013, saying they’d wed the year before. This makes their separation very near the 5-year marriage mark.
The details are unconfirmed, but it looks as if Jackson could add as much as $200 million to her net worth from her divorce. PageSix reports that Jackson was entitled $100 million if they were married for five years, but that amount would double if the couple had a child.
A relative of Jackson’s says money was not the driving force behind the divorce proceedings. “It looks like a money grab but it’s not about money,” the source said. “She’s never in a relationship too long. Her longest was Rene and that was for [nearly] 10 years [1991-2000]. Marriage doesn’t agree with her. She doesn’t agree with marriage.”
A family security guard agreed with that sentiment. “She loves to be in control,” he said. “She ceded that control [in marriage] and she was not happy about it. She wants to get back to being Janet Jackson and not Mrs. Wissam Al Mana or being the obedient Muslim wife.”
