Janet Jackson is reportedly having emergency surgery on her vocal cords amid fears that she could have a cancerous tumor.

Janet Jackson Surgery

“Doctors found a growth on Janet’s vocal cords that could be serious,” a source claiming to be close to the singer told RadarOnline. “It’s a medical condition that has to be taken care of immediately.”

The source added, “Janet said she knows that with prayers and her will, she’ll be back out on the road in the spring or early summer.”

However, the optimism aside, if the growth on Jackson’s vocal cords is determined to be cancerous, it would likely force the end of her singing career.

“God forbid that this should be cancer of the larynx. That would abruptly end her ability to ever perform again. Singing would be impossible,” Dr. Stuart Fischer told Radar. “Surgery would be very complex, and followed by months of radiation treatment.”

Jackson announced on New Year’s Eve that she had to postpone her highly-anticipated Unbreakable Tour to have surgery, though she declined to detail her medical issue.

“Hey you guys…Happy Holidays to each and every one of you! I need you to know, I learned today, from my doctors that I must have surgery soon,” Jackson wrote. “It breaks my heart to tell you that I am forced to postpone the Unbreakable Tour until the spring.”

“Please pray for me, my family and our entire company during this difficult time,” she added.
