Janet Jackson To Release First New Album In Seven Years This Fall

Janet Jackson will release her first new album in seven years this fall under her own record label, Rhythm Nation, in collaboration with BMG.

Janet Jackson: New Album, Record Label And World Tour

Jackson has not released new music since 2008’s Discipline, and fans have been eager awaiting the pop star’s return to the spotlight, some even creating a ‘Janet Jackson Missing’ flyer demanding new music. Fans are getting their wish and more, with Jackson announcing not only a new album, but a new record label and a world tour. “I promised you’d here it from my lips, and now you will. This year: new music, new world tour, a new movement,” Jackson teased in an announcement video posted May 15.

Now details are finally being released about what fans can expect from Jackson. First up: new album to be released in the fall. The album, currently untitled, will be the first record released under her new label, Rhythm Nation, named for her 1989 album. Jackson’s decision to open her own record label comes from a desire to have more creative control and retain the rights to her own music and recordings. According to the official announcement, Jackson also hopes to “offer a home to both new and established recording artists” at Rhythm Nation.

“Janet is not just a supreme artist, she is a unique cultural force whose work resonates around the world. It is an honor that she has chosen BMG to release her long-awaited new album. We look forward to collaborating with her across every platform,” said BMG CEO Hartwig Masuch in a statement.

Jackson added, “Thank you to the talented team at BMG, my new artistic home. The opportunity to be creative in music and every form of entertainment has great potential here.”
